On Thursday, June 27, 2013, the United States Senate, by a vote of 68-32, passed S. 744, the “Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act.”  This legislation, initially drafted by the bipartisan “Gang of Eight” is an overhaul of the nation’s broken immigration system.

This bill, backed by the White House and President Barack Obama, would provide a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented aliens who currently live and work in the United States.  The bill also aims to strengthen border security.
The bill now moves to the House of Representatives where it faces strong opposition by Republican leadership.
